Mary Hill

MaryHillI make art because it relaxes me and helps me to appreciate the beauty in life. Being “in the flow” is my goal. I know I’m there when the art makes itself. Something magical happens that I still can’t explain, after all of these years.

With watercolor, I draw, find colors, and often let them mix on the paper. Each piece is a new experiment.
My collages are pure play. I paint large pieces of tissue paper with acrylic paint and glue it down.

I like to make an occasional self-portrait collage to get in touch with who I am, inside and out.

I am inspired by nature, flowers, gardens, poetry, photo- graphs, and other artists.

I make art indoors in the rainy season, and outdoors when the sun is shining. I love to go camping and make art, or wander around Portland, OR, painting in public and private gardens.

Mary Hill has taken art classes at Portland Community Schools, Multnomah Art Center, Portland Community College, Marylhurst University, and at individual artist’s studios. She has sold her art to individuals since 1993. Her watercolors and collages are in private collections throughout the United States.
